Silent Night

I was driving home around 5 p.m. last week with my seven-year-old Sam in the back seat, radio tuned to 98.7 “The Bay”. They usually play soft rock, and this time of year you can expect to hear the usual holiday jingle or two. When Five for Fighting’s version of Silent Night came on, I was taken off guard. So spare, so calm and lovely. My son joined in after the first few lines. At the end, I sighed with contentment.

Sam:  “That was nice, huh mom?”

Me: “Yes, very nice.”

Sam: “Yeah, mellow.”

And so we were. Those mellow moments are precious gifts this time of year.
